Improv psych-pop outfit THE BONK, have just announced a string of dates co-headlining an Irish tour co-headlining tour with kraut/drone trio PERCOLATOR.

The Bonk is a broad-based musical project headed by Waterford songwriter and improviser Phil Christie (O Emperor). Gathering influences from 60’s garage, jazz and experimental pop, the band's arrangements bring recursive rhythms and improvised melodies together in loose minimalist song forms.

Their first record, The Bonk Seems To Be A Verb, released through Drogheda-based tape label thirtythree-45, is a collection of one-off live studio recordings patched together from various sessions over an 18 month period. Since its release, recordings have been continuing apace with the bands live appearances with another collection of tracks planned for release later in 2018.

“Incorporating textures as diverse as indecipherable growling vocals, washboards, shimmering synths and improvised melodies, TBSTBAV is dynamic, addictive and exceptional.” (Totally Dublin)

“The Bonk use slinking and jagged rhythms, as well as a complex, melodically dynamic push & pull to create one of the most singular Irish records we’re likely to hear this year – and they’re equally captivating live.” (The Thin Air)

Percolator is an experimental rock band whose blend of hypnotic kraut techno and wall of shoegazing guitar drones has been compared to Swans with a leaning towards NEU!’s krautrock driven rhythms.

Percolator’s mix of hypnotic kraut techno and wall of shoegazing guitar drones has been compared to Swans with a leaning towards NEU!’s krautrock driven rhythms. Formed in Waterford in 2007 as a drum and guitar duo mainly influenced by the electro infused noise pop and shoegaze bands of the 80’s and 90’s, the banad released a number of 7” singles and EPs.

In 2012, having gone through several line-up changes, the current and longest lasting line-up was formed. Consisting of John ‘Spud’ Murphy (Bass, Synths), and founding members Eleanor Myler (Drums, vocals) and Ian Chestnutt (guitar vocals), the trio have spent the last 5 years transforming themselves into one of the most intriguing and melodically arresting bands in Ireland at the moment.

‘A staggering collection of eight tracks packaged as ‘Sestra’, electronically charged experimental standards drenched in poly-rhythmic kraut rock connotations underscored with subtle flourishes of shoegaze, prog rock & resonating noise.’ - Primal Music
